All Recipes iPhone App
December 29th, 2008
While laying in bed last night, I was browsing around the app store and discovered the All Recipes iPhone app. I’ve been a fan of the AllRecipes.com website for quite a while. Their app is called DinnerSpinner, the concept is you spin the meal choice, then an ingredient choice and finally a preparation time choice. Ironically enough my day job has a client who wants to do something similar to this for their next website.
Here’s a sample view of the spinner. I’ve selected Appetizer, Cheese and Slow Cooker. You can also click a button that says, “Spin Categories”. That button is currently replaced by the “View Matches” button.
Black and White Framed
December 29th, 2008
On the day of the first big snow storm, I was in the dark room with my friend printing 11″ x 14″ black and white prints. My intention was to pick a select few and give them as Christmas presents.
I then went to Michael’s and took advantage of their 50% frame sale and picked up two 16″ x 20″ frames, and then two 11″ x 14″ mats.
This photo I took while in New Hampshire on Thanksgiving. It now hangs in our living room.
This photo is from Maine earlier this year. We were up in Cutler Harbor when I snapped this shot. My inlaws were who introduced me to Maine, and I wanted to give them something for their living room. They were very happy with the print and are now hanging it prominently on one of their walls.
I’m really enjoying being able to give my prints to family as gifts. My next venture is to start selling my digital and black and white prints online.
Seasons Greetings
December 29th, 2008
For my father in law’s birthday which is Dec 26th, my family decided to take a winter walk. At the end we took a group shot. It’s been several years since there’s been a photo of us all together.
I decided to process the photo as a black and white with a high contrast. I like how deep the blacks were and the contrast to the white snow all around.
Hope everyone had a wonderful holiday season.

This is from the agency AKQA. I have no idea how much planning goes into getting these in the right order. Very cool!
A Holiday Card, Charlie Brown

While I’ve never had to work at an agency that this high pressured about a holiday greeting. I’ve been on other projects with the same intensity.
Not sure who made this little parody but it’s pretty funny and good.

TED: Carl Honore: Slowing down in a world built for speed: “
Journalist Carl Honore believes the Western world’s emphasis on speed erodes health, productivity and quality of life. But there’s a backlash brewing, as everyday people start putting the brakes on their all-too-modern lives.

Pigeon Point Lighthouse

This photo is absolutely amazing. I saw this featured on the Flickr blog.
“Every year at the Pigeon Point Lighthouse along the San Mateo County, California coast, they light up the old Fresnel lens in a special celebration. And of course, Flickr members were there Saturday night to capture the event.” – from the Flickr Blog
