Experiments with Infrared
In Photoshop CS3 there is a new feature, Image > Adjustments > Black and White. In the dialog there are several presets you can choose from, one is Infrared. I’ve always admired, Dave’s infrared photography, which he does with an attachment for his camera. I haven’t broken down yet and gotten an attachment.
This experiment though has made me really want to get one though. I did a little tweaking of this photo after the basic infrared was applied. I created a slight vignetting, along with some edge blur. I’m happy with the final product.
Here is the original image.
I think considering that is done using Photoshop to simulate the effect, it’s quite impressive and clever really. The end result is certainly very pleasing to look at.
I’ve not done much infrared of late – I like to do it when it’s nice sunny warm weather, and that has been quite rare in the UK !
Thanks Dave! Sorry for the really delayed reply. At some point I’d really like to get either an adaptor for my digital or an old film camera where I can use real infrared film with it.
